Project overview
The Sylvia Park Wastewater Renewals Project is an essential upgrade to ageing wastewater infrastructure across the Sylvia Park and Mount Wellington area. Several existing pipes in this network have experienced failures and are now in poor condition, increasing the risk of further issues for local homes, businesses, and public spaces. To ensure the network remains safe, reliable, and able to support the community into the future, Watercare is undertaking a programme of investigation and renewal works.
Starting in March 2026, our contractor HEB, will carry-out early phase investigations to understand the full condition of the wastewater pipes and identify the most effective renewal approach. These activities include ground penetrating radar to locate underground services, land surveying to map the pipe route and surrounding features, and targeted potholing to confirm pipe depth and position. You may see crews working in roadways, berms, public reserves, and occasionally on private property. If access to your property is required, we will contact you beforehand.
What happens next?
The information gathered during this phase will help determine whether pipes can be relined, need full replacement, or require a combination of both methods. Once investigations are complete, we will share an update outlining the planned construction approach and expected timeframes.

How will these works affect you?
- Investigation works will begin mid March
- Typical working hours will be 7:00 am – 7:00 pm, Monday – Friday.
- Investigation works are expected to take up to 3 months to complete, subject to weather.
- In some areas, night works may be required where activities cannot be safely or practically completed during the day. Should this be necessary, and if you are within the affected area, we will notify you in advance.
- Investigation works may not be limited to location around the wastewater pipe corridor to ensure we gather all necessary information required to plan the construction phase.
- If we need to access your property we will notify you in advance.
- There may be some temporary noise, localised traffic disruption. All work will comply with Auckland Council requirements.
- Property access will be maintained. If temporary restrictions are required, affected residents will be notified in advance.
- Crews will operate from footpaths, berms, and roadside areas, with temporary traffic management in place when required.
When temporary traffic management is in place you may notice the following changes
- Contraflow or stop/go
- Reduced speed limits
- Reduced lane width
- Reduced street parking
- Traffic VMS boards
- Pedestrian detours / reduced footpath width
Thank you for your patience and collaboration whilst we carry out this essential work.
